What We Believe - Intimacy, Involvement, Influence
At times, we Christians have been guilty of making the simple, complex. This is probably no more true than when it comes to defining what it means to be
a Christ-follower.
The reality is that Jesus summed up what it means to be a follower of His in two succinct statements, what we now refer to as the Great Commandment (Matthew 22:37-39) and the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20).
In the Great Commandment Jesus said that our life’s DUTY can be summed up in the command to love God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength; and to love others as we love ourselves. And in the Great Commission he said our life’s PURPOSE, as a Christ-follower, is to reproduce - to make disciples (other Christ-followers).
Therefore, at Community Church we encourage each other to live out the God-ordained DUTY and PURPOSE for our lives by:
In practical terms, what does this look like?
FIRST WE NEED TO GROW IN INTIMACY WITH GOD
Loving God, as described by Jesus in the Great Commandment, requires that we grow daily in intimacy with Him. This happens as we get to know God better, through worship, prayer and the study of His word, the Bible.
Therefore, we encourage you to worship on a weekly basis. We encourage you to pray and look for God's responses to your prayers. And we encourage you to study the Bible personally on a daily basis, and weekly in community with others. Look for the variety of "tools" we make available to help you do this.
"But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ." 2 Peter 3:18
THEN WE NEED TO INCREASE INVOLVEMENT WITH GOD'S FAMILY
God designed us to need each other. If we're honest with ourselves, we have to admit that we long for the kind of relationships where we really "know" a few other people and are "known" by them.
Connecting with other believers on a regular basis, encouraging each other to pursue God's purpose for our lives, and caring for each other in a genuine way, is what we believe it takes to develop these kind of relationships. We encourage you to get involved in a Covenant Flock small group, Fellowship Flock or in a ministry serving with others. If you do, we think you'll discover a new-found love for other people.
“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." John 13:34-35
FINALLY WE NEED TO DEVELOP INFLUENCE WITH OTHERS
God created us with the natural ability to influence others. Once we enter into a relationship with him through faith in Christ, he then asks us to harness that influence to reach others with the message of the transforming power of the Gospel, the good news of Jesus Christ.
We want to help Christ-followers develop all of the influence God designed them for through various outreach activities and events, as well as training opportunities and just simple encouragement. We like to use the simple phrase "invest and invite" to remind us that our purpose in life is loving the lost into a relationship with God through faith in Christ.
"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria and to the ends of the earth." Acts 1:8
